Optomap

Optomap affords the doctor unparalleled diagnosis abilities.
Digital Retinal Exam

While conventional eye exams can be uncomfortable for patients and afford the doctor only a glimpse to make a diagnosis, the Optomap Retinal Exam captures detailed digital images of the eye, allowing doctors to make thorough analysis. With Optomap, the doctor can view more of the eye, a 200 degree arc, allowing him view parts of the retina that would be otherwise invisible.

As one of the few eye doctors in Central Florida using Optomap's technology, Dr. Podschun suggests all patients take advantage of this optional eye exam. When you make your appointment, make sure you ask for the Optomap Digital Retinal Exam.

Detecting Disease

Early Detection with Optomap

The Optomap Retinal Exam helps the doctor identify abnormalities that could indicate the onset of a number of diseases that often present themselves first in the retina.

Glaucoma in the early stages (bottom) is treatable, but if left undetected, the advanced stages (top), it almost always results in permanent vision loss.
Cancer

Melanomas can grow undetected within the retina. If discovered early, these masses can be treated before they cause serious damage and spread to other areas of the body.

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Often the first indicators of high blood pressure, compromised blood vessels appear in the retina and may signify increased pressure in the blood vessels throughout your body.

Retinal Detachment

When the retina detaches, it is lifted or pulled from the wall of the eye and, if not properly treated, can cause permanent vision loss.

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Caused by changes in the retina due to the body's aging process, AMD blurs the sharp, central vision.

Glaucoma

Excess fluids within the eye elevate the intraocular pressure, which pushes against the optic nerve and can cause permanent vision loss.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)

A leading cause of blindness, DR occurs when diabetes damages the tiny blood vessels inside the retina.
